Fourth Southern African Base Metals Conference

Swakopmund, Namibia, 23-25 July 2007

Flight Information

The closest major airport to Swakopmund is located at the neighbouring town of Walvis Bay. (Windhoek, as the capital of Namibia, has more frequent flights, but is quite a few hours drive away from Swakopmund.) It is expected that many delegates will choose to fly in to Namibia from Johannesburg. The following information has been obtained from the South African Airways (SAA) website at http://www.flysaa.com

Please note that there is no SAA flight from Johannesburg to Walvis Bay on Saturday 21 July, and there is no SAA flight from Walvis Bay to Johannesburg on Saturday 28 July. However, there are flights from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg (JNB) to Walvis Bay Airport (WVB) on 22 July 2007, returning on 25, 26, and 27 July 2007. The price indicated on the website was R4098 (including taxes) for a return economy air fare.

Suggested flights:
Sunday 22 July 2007: (SA1701) 11:05am (Johannesburg) - 12:20pm (Walvis Bay)

Thursday 26 July 2007: (SA1702) 1:10pm (Walvis Bay) - 4:25pm (Johannesburg)
Friday 27 July 2007: (SA1702) 1:10pm (Walvis Bay) - 4:25pm (Johannesburg)

A bus will be provided by the conference organisers to transfer delegates from the airport at Walvis Bay to the various hotels in Swakopmund on Sunday 22 July. After the conference, and again after the technical visits, bus transport will also be provided, from the conference venue to the airport, on Thursday 26 July and Friday 27 July 2007. If you wish to make use of this service, it is very important that you make this known to the conference organisers well in advance.

Please note that the technical visits will involve chartered flights, but these arrangements will be made on the behalf of delegates by the conference organisers. The cost of the chartered flights will be included in the cost of the technical visits.
